5.2 SHOWS

5.2.1 Objections to Show date.

Eastern Districts Kennel Club informed the Office that, by mutual agreement, they were splitting with TKC (week 41, Gauteng, beginning October). TKC, in order to offer the same amount of qualifications to exhibitors, have applied to hold a second Show on that weekend.

Eastern Districts Kennel Club has applied for a new Show date at the end of April (week 18). This was approved by the Shows Department with the following criteria being met:

  • No clashes in the same discipline (Breed) on the same date within a 160km radius
  • No objections from the disciplines being held on the same weekend at the venue

They have also applied for a second Show.

Objections have since been received from:

  • Pat de Coning – Northern Tshwane Kennel Club – claiming that exhibitors wont travel to the number of shows on offer in Gauteng. Objection attached.
  • Natasha Baxter – claiming that it will affect the Non-Championship shows in KZN. She is a learner Judge travelling to KZN on that weekend. Objection attached.
  • Michelle Tregoning – claiming that it will affect the Non-Championship shows in KZN. She is a learner judge travelling to KZN on that weekend. Objection attached.

Other information supplied to the Office:

Eastern Districts Kennel Club has initiated a Junior Showmanship “Camp” and they will be using their shows as a platform to put the children on the map. They were offered two possible show dates (June and April). The April date was chosen because June is exam time, and the Junior Showmanship Camp will not be successful at that time. The April weekend is a long weekend, so it’s easier for travellers. With the Disciplines being on offer at the venue, it will expose the Juniors to that side of the Dogworld as well. The Club has informed the Office that they are negotiating with international Judges.

Other advantages that were pointed out:

Extra KUSA Licence fees & Show returns

Extra grounds fees for Goldfields

More events for the exhibitors.

The Shows Department is seeking guidance on whether to withdraw the above approval for this Show date based on the Objections.

Second Championship Show applications are below.

Response received from Club and attached to agenda.

After discussion, the matter was put to a vote and the second Show was approved.

5.2.2. Applications for Second Championship Show

5.21.1 Trick Dog Statistics

February 2023 sees a year since Trick Dog was first offered by KUSA. Below are some interesting statistics and comments on KUSA’s first cybersport offering:

A total of 127 handlers have taken part, of which 45.6% are KUSA members and 54.3% are non-KUSA members. Most handlers have entered one or two dogs, but we have one who has entered 7 dogs, 1 x 6 dogs, and 2 x 5 dogs.

At least five junior handlers have taken part, one of which has passed a dog at the Champion level and another who is an 11-yr old, has achieved Elementary and Beginners with her Australian Cattle Dog, and live in Botswana.

A total of 64 different breeds, breed types or cross-types have taken part earned 376 titles amongst them.

Some interesting feedback from the handlers who have taken part:

  • Thank you so much to everyone making it possible and the evaluators for your time!!!!! We had so much fun and are having even more fun learning some new tricks. Can't wait to send them in. I am always just so amazed and stunned at how intelligent dogs are and how eager they are to spend time with us. Levi and I are definitely bonding so much and learning new things about each other every day. Thank you so much, this is exactly why I got him. He has given me my JOY back and is such a blessing in my life.
  • Thank you so much to the whole Kusa trick dog team for making the opportunity to gain titles so accessible to ordinary pet parents. Hannah and I have had great fun training for our submissions.
  • Loving this journey – we are having so much fun together.

8. ELECTION OF KENNEL UNION MEMBERS IN TERMS OF ARTICLE 10(1)

8.1 24 new Members and 26 lapsed Members elected.

8.2 Membership Application

Ms Tazma Wearne (Membership No. 181889)

Ms Wearne’s membership became due on 15.08.2022 and lapsed on 15.09.2022. Her application to renew her membership was discussed at Exco 12-2022 and the following noted:

KUSA Office to advise Ms Wearne that until confirmation is received that all fees are paid in full to the various parties, the Executive Committee is unable to consider her application for renewal of her membership. Exco notes Ms Wearne’s intentions to address the complaints fully.

Ms Wearne sent an email to the office on 07.01.2023

The rejection of Ms Wearne’s membership application by Exco means that she is unable to meet Exco’s requirement that she honours her commitments to the various complainants. After discussion, and taking into account the personal circumstances explained by Ms Wearne, Exco granted a once-off and non-precedent setting dispensation to Ms Wearne for the registration of litters that were born prior to the date her KUSA Membership lapsed ,i.e.15.09. 2022, provided all registration applications were received within 14 days.

An application was received for the registration of a litter born 04.02.2022 (Only one pup survived, all others died).

This dog has been registered and transferred into the new owner’s name.

Thereafter Ms Wearne requested an extension of the deadline date to submit a second litter that was born 17.08.2022.

The Chairman of Exco agreed to extend the deadline date to 06.02.2023.

Ms Wearne failed to honour her commitment. Payment and application were not received.

In consequence, Ms Wearne’s application to renew her KUSA Membership is to be formally rejected.

Application Rejected.
