5.2.4.2 KUSA Nationals – Working Disciplines

T he NAPC Agility Sub-Committee respectfully request s the right to host the 2022 KUSA Nationals for Disciplines at the NAPC Disciplines Bumper Weekend from the 29 April – 2 May 2022. The National Event for Disciplines will be held on Sunday , 30 April 2022, at Goldfields Showgrounds .

National Event for the following Disciplines:

  • Agility
  • Carting
  • Dog Jumping
  • Flyball
  • Obedience
  • Rally Dog

If the KUSA Nationals for Disciplines are held in conjunction with Breed at the end of May, both events would be adversely affected as handlers from around the country would be forced to choose between the KUSA Nationals and the NAPC Bumper Weekend as it is not reasonable to expect handlers to travel to both events.

With NAPC Disciplines Weekend hosting the KUSA Nationals for Disciplines, the event would receive an excellent entry and the prestige it deserves.

In 2021, more than 160 dogs from around the country participated at the NAPC Bumper Weekend. We feel that our Bumper Weekend is the ideal weekend for the KUSA Nationals for Disciplines in 2022. Exco previously granted us permission to hold the KUSA Nationals in 2019, 2020 (granted but cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions) & 2021, which we successfully held.

Approved

5.4.1 Article 25.2 Judges shall maintain continuous and unbroken membership of the Kennel Union from the time their formal studies or activities towards a judging qualification commence until their voluntary retirement from judging, advised in writing to the Executive Committee, or their incapacitation (at the discretion of the Executive Committee), or their death.

Notification of voluntary retirement received from:

Mr G Bidder (WC) - (Breed)

Mrs N Aadnesgaard (KZN) – (Dog Jumping & Agility)

Noted.

5.4.2 Agility Judges

Request for dispensation for applicant Judges to officiate at the SA Agility Championships 2022.

The organising Committee asked for one of the criteria to be relaxed in 2022 as the number of events available to Judges to fill their quota was insufficient. COVID-19 has not allowed the required number of events to take place in some centres, and out of the four applicants, only one could be considered, therefore making it impossible to run the event. Three Judges are required.

Accepted unanimously via round robin vote on 12/01/2022

5.12.2 Request from the Convener of the Agility National Sub-Committee for consideration & deliberation.

Below please find e-mail received as motivation:

Dear KUSA Executives,

On behalf of the National Agility Sub-Committee, I would like to submit a request to Exco for an amendment on the number of licences allocated to Provincial Agility Sub-Committees for the various leagues (South African Agility Championships (SAAC) Regional Trials – Schedule 5L D, National Agility League (NAL) Trials – Schedule 5L F).

There are a total of 4 SAAC Trials rounds and a total of 4 NAL Trials rounds to be run each year.

Currently the provincial agility sub-committees have a total of 4 open show licences available for leagues or shows (Agility & Dog Jumping) in each province (5L 1.2).

This request is particularly relevant in the provinces that have a limited number of shows in their calendars (most notably EP and WP), and therefore limited opportunities for lower grade handlers (grade 1 and grade 2) to gain signatures to move up the grades, especially if normal Non-Championship licences are utilized for the above national trials.

Our request is that 5L 1.2 is amended to include:

• A total of 8 x "Agility League” licences (that are free as no income will be generated by the Sub-Committee)

• That the current 4 Non-Championship show licences available to the Agility Sub-Committee are specifically limited to Non-Championship show licences i.e. these must be used for income (and KUSA levy) generating open-shows going forward and will not be used for free, non-income generating KUSA national trials.

So the proposed amendment to the second paragraph of Regulation 1.2 Schedule 5L:

Any Provincial Agility Sub-Committee may apply for not more than four (4) Non-Championship Show licences in any calendar year, which may be used for SAAC Regional Trials and/or NAL. These licences may not be used for the South African Dog Agility Championship final event. In addition, any Provincial Agility Sub-Committee may apply for not more than eight (8) Agility League licences in any calendar year, which may only be used for the completion of non-income generating League rounds.

By doing so we believe that it will allow us to help regain the ground lost in agility in EC and WC in recent years, as well as build a bigger national base of competitive handlers who will ultimately try-out for selection to represent KUSA at the Agility World Championships.

Some key points from EC/WC agility sub-committee side:

The current 4 Agility licences are not sufficient for the 8 league rounds that are required to be run (4 x SAC, 4x NAL)

Our clubs struggle to find judges when we put a league in a show, as we don’t have many judges, and they are handlers as well, then won’t judge the shows as they want to compete in the league, therefore clubs aren’t finding judges.

Our learner judges need to judge the open shows, but are not qualified, so that excludes them from judging league rounds.

Your consideration and comments would be appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,

Rob Hall

After deliberation and discussion, all agreed to the acceptance of the proposal. Dispensation is granted for the issue of 8 Agility League Licences per Agility Provincial Council Sub-Committee during the interim period, whilst waiting for the proposed amendments to Schedule 5L to be approved at Fedco 06-2022.
