THE KENNEL UNION OF SOUTHERN AFRICA MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF KUSA HELD AT 13H00 ON TUESDAY 20 FEBRUARY 2024 VIA MS TEAMS
1. ATTENDANCE, APOLOGIES & ANNOUNCEMENTS

2. MINUTES
The Minutes of the meeting held on 23.01.2024 were formally adopted.
3. ANY MATTERS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES
3.1 K9 Sport Specialist GSD Club (under Mpumalanga GSD Club licence) – 25.06.2023
The above Club held a Non-Championship IGP Trial on 25 June. The office noted a Judge change to the online portal on the day of the show by the Club. No documentation was submitted, no reason for the change, nor a new Judge’s contract was received. All pre-show documentation listed Christine Kneidinger as the judge, and she was approved. On receiving the Show Returns, the Judge was confirmed as Mr John Swartz.

No response from the club regarding the change
Reports required from Christine Kneidinger as the contracted judge and John Swartz as the stand in Judge.
Letter of reprimand issued.
No response received.
Letter to be sent to the Club Committee requesting a response.
The matter was carried forward to the next Exco meeting.
Once again, no response was received from the Club. Emails were sent on 18.12.2023 and on 17.01.2024.
Exco imposed a fine of R500 on the Club and on the Club Secretary for non-compliance and non-response to Exco requests for a reply.
Subsequently, letters of response were received (see attached).

3.4 Cape Town Kennel Club – 15.10.2023
The above Club reported that there were some irregularities ringside during the Jack Russell Terrier judging. An exhibitor swopped her dogs’ classes, and the dogs’ won awards.

Letter to be sent to the Exhibitor and Ring Steward detailing the procedure that should have been followed.
Exco to draft a proposed new Regulation to govern such incidents for tabling at Fedco 06-2024
meeting.

After discussion it was decided that a combination of the two proposals is to be drafted ahead of Exco 03-24 for inclusion on the Agenda.

The above Club is applying to hold a Second Championship Show in conjunction with the Free State All-breeds Shows. Letters from the Organising Committees attached.

The above Club has applied for an FCI A2O CAC Show to be held in Bloemfontein. The application has been approved by the Free State and Northern Cape Provincial Council, however the R10 000 deposit still needs to be paid.

CGC continues to run well with a total of 472 successful results having been received to date for 2023. Clubs are encouraged to submit all outstanding results.
A suggestion has been made for KUSA to consider adopting a CGC Platinum test with initial thoughts being a dog achieving three CGC Gold certifications but each in a different location, e.g. one at a training Club, one at a showground environment and one at a public space such as an expo. While there are merits to this suggestion, there is a more pressing need to design and run a training course for Evaluators.

10. GENERAL
10.1 MA enquired on whether there was a proactive way of warning members regarding the Schedule 02 Regulation 12 rules. PM suggested that the wording on the covering letter, sent to members when posting certificates, is amended to include a reminder of the Regulations.
10.2 GBR reported that a group of interested people in East London are trying to start up East London Kennel Club, Port Rex Kennel Club and Queenstown & Districts Kennel Club again and Show Licences will be applied for in due course.
