CLR MICHAEL VORSTER

CHAIRMAN OF THE JUDGES EDUCATION COUNCIL OF KUSA

At a Special Meeting of the Federal Council on Thursday, 4 April 2024, Clr Michael Vorster was unanimously elected as Chairman of the Judges Education Council of KUSA for the unexpired portion of the term of the Immediate Past Chairman, Mr Gérard Robinson.

Clr Vorster was born and grew up in Durban in a household where his mother was a Cocker Spaniel aficionada. After his studies, he moved to Johannesburg and was later transferred to Cape Town, where he spent the next seventeen years. Ten years ago, Clr Vorster returned to his roots when he was transferred to Durban, where he currently resides.

When he acquired his first purebred dog – a Shar Pei – in 2001, Clr Vorster joined KUSA and, in 2008, registered his Affix, Doroper. Importing a number of Shar Pei from the UK to improve his breeding lines, he produced some outstanding specimens of the breed which brought him considerable success in the show ring. During his active show career, Clr Vorster campaigned eight dogs to championship status.

Clr Vorster embarked on his judging career in 2006 and in 2019 attained All-breeds status. Along the way, he was honoured with several prestigious appointments, inter alia, all the Provincial Councils’ annual competitions for their top-winning dogs, but he rates the Champion of Champions Competition, for which he officiated in Thailand in 2023, as the pinnacle of his judging career so far.

As a postgraduate, Clr Vorster acquired a qualification in Financial and Investment Planning and currently holds the professional designation with the FPI of Certified Financial Planner – CFP®.  He is a registered Key Individual with the Financial Service Conduct Authority (FSCA) and employed by an International Financial Service and Investment Company, where he leads a team of Financial and Investment Professionals.

After serving a year on the Executive Committee, Clr Vorster was appointed to the Federal Council, where he is currently serving out his third year. As a joint holder of the Fedco Portfolio for the FCI, he was part of KUSA’s two-person delegation to the FCI General Assembly in Geneva in 2023.

When not involved in dog affairs, Clr Vorster is an avid Formula One fan and you’re likely to find him unavailable during Grand Prix races!
